After
beating long-standing rivals Germany in the semi finals of the
Champions Trophy in Rosario, Argentina, on Saturday evening, Great
Britain's Ladies took on Argentina in the final.
Argentina
won the
women's Champions Trophy for the fifth time on Sunday with a
1-0 victory over Great
Britain in the final. The
Netherlands claimed the bronze medal by defeating Germany
5-4.
Argentina were on top for most of the first half against the
British and finally took the lead on their fifth penalty corner
with Silvina
D'Elia scoring what proved to be the match winner.
Coach Carlos Retegui praised the British side, playing in their
first Champions Trophy final. "They are one of the candidates to
win the gold medal in London
(Olympics)," he said.
"It was a great match for us. We didn't start this tournament
playing very well but my team staff worked very hard preparing each
match to reach this moment.
"Now we have a lot to do on our way to London. But we will go
slowly, because this is a young team."
British coach Danny Kerry said that his players had been feeling
tired due to the searing heat that marked the
tournament.
