JHC's Over 50's into Quarter Finals of Masters Plate
13 February 2012, 08:30
Jersey Hockey Club beat Trojans, in
Southampton, 2-0 to advance to the quarter finals of the England
Hockey Masters +50 Plate competition. Working hard to
overcome Trojans stubborn defence, Jersey finally scored after 60
minutes, with Nick Taylor calmly finishing after a creative run by
Peter Taylor. Minutes later, a defence splitting long ball
from sweeper Mark Bailey found striker Murray Gilson who's deft
shot cleared the diving keeper. Earlier in the match Jersey
keeper Mike Labey saved brilliantly low to his right from one of
the few Trojan attacks. Jersey captain Paul Masterton
commented 'with most of the possession, we showed great patience in
breaking down Trojans who defended in depth with 8 across the
back. It was a solid all round performance and we are looking
forward to the quarter finals on March
4th. At
this stage we could be drawn anywhere in England and are grateful
for Brewin Dolphin's support for our
campaign'.
